The Liberty are in. That is the fact. The feeling is more complicated.
New York entered the FIBA World Cup pause at 24-16 with a playoff berth already locked up. The WNBA’s Week 14 power rankings placed the Liberty inside a three-team fight with Dallas and Washington around the sixth-through-eighth seed range, with four games left and one of the tougher remaining schedules among that group.
That puts the Liberty in a familiar New York position: good enough to matter, not comfortable enough to coast.
