NEW YORK. October opens with a full slate of free and public-facing experiences across Manhattan. Breast Cancer Research Foundation is taking over Vanderbilt Hall, Hudson Yards has complimentary coffee and a free morning workout, and amika’s Chelsea exhibition continues its celebration of hair as art and identity.

BCRF turns Vanderbilt Hall into an interactive research experience
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Grand Central Terminal on Thursday, October 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. inside Vanderbilt Hall.
Visitors can write messages to researchers or loved ones in the Postcard Lab, step into a pink lab coat for the Photo Lab, explore partner products in the Shop Pink Lab, and learn about prevention and survivorship research. BCRF also lists performances by Janice Jam and Onco Ballet at 10 a.m. and noon, plus giveaways tied to visits throughout the space.

Hudson Yards is serving complimentary coffee with a reason to stay awhile
illy’s A Cup of Love closes its three-day Hudson Yards run Thursday. The activation centers on slowing down and reconnecting over coffee, with complimentary sessions that pair illy coffee with pastries from rotating local partners.
Guests can also write a postcard keepsake after their coffee session. The experience runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Public Square and Gardens.

Start the morning with a free lululemon HIIT class
Hudson Yards is also hosting a free 45-minute Power Hour with lululemon instructor Jah Washington at 8:30 a.m. The bodyweight circuit focuses on mobility, muscular endurance and strength. A limited number of mats will be available, and the post-workout experience continues at lululemon with product education and David Protein Bars.

amika’s hair-as-art exhibition is still open in Chelsea
Brooklyn-born haircare brand amika is presenting Crowns in Bloom: Celebrating Hair in Contemporary Art through October 9. Curated by Auttrianna Ward, the exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, photography, installation and film centered on hair as identity, memory, culture and self-expression.
The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 526 W. 26th Street, Suite 207.
