This week’s calendar runs from the beauty industry’s trade floor at Javits to a single downtown room on Varick Street. SOB’s alone covers Caribbean dominoes, a Chicago rapper’s tour stop, Cuban hip-hop pioneers and a Coltrane centennial in the span of seven days.

September 16: Jerry Wonda puts the table at the center
Dominoes Night with Jerry Wonda opened at SOB’s Wednesday at 6 p.m. for guests 18 and older, with free entry by RSVP and a $10 charge to play all night. Tournament play, DJ sets, food and drinks turned the table into the room’s centerpiece, drawing on Caribbean, Latin American and old-school New York social traditions.
September 16 and 17: where beauty products are born
MakeUp in NewYork fills Javits Center Halls 1E and 1D, and today is the final day, running 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibitors include formulators, ingredient suppliers, packaging specialists, manufacturers and accessory makers. The textures and packaging that reach shopping feeds next year start as decisions on this floor. It is a trade event with badge registration and a separate press accreditation process, not a public shopping pop-up.
September 18: tobi lou brings the tour downtown
tobi lou’s Same Old Jeans Tour stops at SOB’s on Friday, with doors at 7 p.m. and an 18-and-over policy. A club this size puts the performer and the crowd close enough to feel each other, which is the point of catching an artist here before the arena years.
September 19: Orishas takes Saturday
Cuban hip-hop group Orishas brings De Cerca, en New York to SOB’s on Saturday, with doors at 6 p.m. and a 21-and-over policy. Paired with Friday’s tobi lou show, it is a clear picture of why SOB’s remains one of the few rooms in the city where very different audiences share the same floor on back-to-back nights.
September 22: a Coltrane centennial tribute
Jazz For Lovers presents a John Coltrane 100th Birthday Tribute at SOB’s on Tuesday, September 22, with music by Freelance. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with sets at 7:15 and 8:30 p.m. It is 21 and over, with standing and seated tickets; seated tickets carry a two-drink minimum. Expect Coltrane alongside other jazz standards.
