Two beauty pop-ups are open in Manhattan today, and both are free. Bobbi Brown has built a branded newsstand in the Meatpacking District, and Dr. Groot’s Scalp Lab is back in Union Square for a second day. KraveBeauty’s one-day smoothie collaboration on Broadway wrapped Wednesday.
Bobbi Brown’s “The Prime Times”
Today, September 17 · Noon to 6 p.m. · Chelsea Triangle, Ninth Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets
Bobbi Brown has turned the classic New York newsstand into a launch vehicle for Vitamin Enriched Face Base+. Visitors can sample the product and pick up the kind of morning essentials a newsstand would hand you: a grapefruit Spindrift, a mini croissant in a branded pastry bag and a scratch-off card with a “Primed For” giveaway. Some scratch-off winners take home the full-size product. A mirrored photo wall rounds it out.
The concept works because it borrows a format every New Yorker already knows how to use. You grab, you go, and you leave with a sample in your bag.
Dr. Groot’s Scalp Lab
Today, September 17 · 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. · Union Square Plaza, Broadway between East 17th and East 18th Streets
The Korean hair care brand’s mobile lab is built around scalp health. Visitors can learn about the regimen, test fragrances and explore the line hands-on. It is open to the public and closes an hour earlier than Wednesday’s run.
Wrapped: KraveBeauty x Go Greek
On Wednesday, KraveBeauty partnered with Go Greek Yogurt at 683 Broadway to launch Mochi Berrier Moisture Cream. The one-day event paired a berry “Berrier Bounce” smoothie with the product, offered full-size jars with qualifying purchases while supplies lasted, and added a typewriter poet and a live DJ.
Why brands keep doing this
All three launches trade the department store counter for a sidewalk. Food, drink and a photo moment get people in the door, and the product leaves with them. For shoppers, that means free samples. For brands, it means content that travels well beyond the few hundred people who showed up.
